Asset consolidation exceptions

Not all assets are consolidated because some network addresses don't reliably identify a single device. For example, they may be virtual or synthetic adapters that are typically cloned or reused across multiple systems or vendor devices. To avoid incorrectly merging unrelated devices, these addresses are excluded from asset consolidation.

Additionally, locally administered addresses (LAAs) are not consolidated. LAAs often replace MAC addresses and are only guaranteed to be unique on the local network, if at all. The same address can appear on unrelated devices and an address for a given device can change over time. Assets are not consolidates based on LAs. You can identify an LAA by the second character of the address:
