Create a device query that matches the conditions of the legacy zone

New zones leverage saved device queries as zone rules to automatically add devices to it based on certain device characteristics. To replace a legacy zone, create and save a device query that matches the conditions of the legacy zone’s rules.

  1. In the console, go to the Zones page.
  2. Click a legacy zone to view its details.

Legacy zone rules have the “This is a legacy Zone Rule and cannot be deleted” message in the Zone Rule section.

  3. In the Zone Rule section, click the rule.
  4. In the Zone Rule dialog, look at the “If All_or_Any of the following conditions are met” line and make note of the operator:
    1. If it says “All”, then you need to use the AND operator for the device query.
    2. If it says “Any”, then you need to use the OR operator for the device query.
  5. Keep the Zone Rule dialog open for reference.
  6. In a new browser window, go to Assets > Devices.
Make sure you are in the new Devices Grid view.
  7. In the search bar, enter a device query to match the conditions in the Zone Rule dialog with an equivalent expression. Use the appropriate operator from step 4 to separate each condition.
  8. Click Search to perform the device query.
  9. Compare the device query results with the list of devices in the Zone Rule dialog of the legacy zone.

If you notice discrepancies in the results, see Troubleshooting new zones.

  10. Save the device query with a logical name that describes the purpose of the group of devices.
