New zones leverage saved device queries as zone rules to automatically add devices to it based on certain device characteristics. To replace a legacy zone, create and save a device query that matches the conditions of the legacy zone’s rules.
- In the console, go to the Zones page.
- Click a legacy zone to view its details.
Legacy zone rules have the “This is a legacy Zone Rule and cannot be deleted” message in the Zone Rule section.
- In the Zone Rule section, click the rule.
- In the Zone Rule dialog, look at the “If All_or_Any of the following conditions are met” line and make note of the operator:
- If it says “All”, then you need to use the AND operator for the device query.
- If it says “Any”, then you need to use the OR operator for the device query.
- Keep the Zone Rule dialog open for reference.
- In a new browser window, go to .
Make sure you are in the new Devices Grid view.
- In the search bar, enter a device query to match the conditions in the Zone Rule dialog with an equivalent expression. Use the appropriate operator from step 4 to separate each condition.
- Click Search to perform the device query.
- Compare the device query results with the list of devices in the Zone Rule dialog of the legacy zone.
- Save the device query with a logical name that describes the purpose of the group of devices.
