Edit assets

When assets were initially deployed, you added Category, Asset Criticality, and Asset Tags classification values to them to create a baseline. Review and update these asset classification values on a monthly or quarterly basis because environments change over time. Classification values help to provide asset context.

Tip:

To filter assets, in the Search bar, enter a comma-separated list of values. For example, enter a distinct list of IP addresses or device names for bulk editing.

Edit multiple assets

To edit multiple assets, use one of these methods:

Edit multiple assets in the Asset Catalog table

  1. Sign in to the Risk Dashboard.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Assets.
  3. Optional: Use Filters to limit the number of assets that appear on the page.

    See Asset filters section for more information.

  4. In the Asset Catalog table, select the row for every asset that you want to edit as part of a group. You can review more pages and continue making your selections.

    The number of assets currently selected and options to update or clear your selections are displayed.

  5. Click Update Selected.

    The Bulk Update dialog appears.

  6. Edit fields as required.
  7. Click Update to save your changes.
  8. Optional: Click Deselect All to clear all selected assets.

Edit multiple assets in a CSV file

Note:

If you are editing asset tags, verify that the tag exists in the Risk Dashboard.

  1. Sign in to the Risk Dashboard.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Assets.
  3. Optional: Use Filters to limit the number of assets that appear on the page.

    See Asset filters section for more information.

    Tip:

    All assets that match the filter criteria are included in the CSV file, even if they are not currently displayed due to pagination settings.

  4. In the Asset Catalog section, click Export Assets.

    A CSV file with these fields downloads to your device:

    • Device ID
    • Asset IP
    • Device Name
    • Category
    • Asset Tags
    • Asset Criticality
  5. Open the CSV file.

    For more information about the CSV file format, see CSV file format.

  6. If you are based outside of the US, make sure that your version of Microsoft Excel is configured to use US standards to view the CSV file content. If Microsoft Excel is not configured to use US standards:
    1. Based on your operating system, do one of these actions:
      • Windows — Navigate to File > Options > Advanced.
      • macOS — Navigate to Excel > Preferences > Edit.
    2. Clear the Use system separators checkbox.
    3. In the Decimal separator field, enter .
    4. In the Thousands separator, enter ,
  7. Find the Asset IP, and then edit these corresponding columns as needed: Device Name, Category, Asset Tags, and Asset Criticality.
    Note:
    • Do not edit the Device ID column. This results in an unsuccessful CSV file import.
    • To reset the Device Name or Category of an asset, keep the field empty.
    • To exclude a device from the bulk edit, either keep the Device Name or Category values unchanged or delete the row from the CSV file.
    • Make sure that asset tags match those available in the Risk Dashboard. Entering invalid asset tags results in an unsuccessful CSV file import.
  8. Save the CSV file.
  9. In the Risk Dashboard, click Import Assets.
  10. Find the modified CSV file, and then click Open.

    The Confirm Upload dialog appears.

    Note:

    Unchanged asset identification values are marked as Set to Sensor Default. For example, if you add new tags, but do not change the Device Category or Device Name information, then the asset tag information is updated. However, Device Category and Device Name both display Set to Sensor Default.

  11. Click Upload.

    A message appears to confirm whether the import was successful or unsuccessful.

CSV file format

The assets CSV file uses this format for each line, with no comma after the last asset tag:
