Request a physical sensor

Provide the information necessary for Arctic Wolf® to provision and ship a physical sensor.

  1. Sign in to the Arctic Wolf Unified Portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Data Collection > Sensors.
  3. In the Available Licenses section, make sure that you have an unused license for the desired hardware model.
  4. Click Add Sensor.
  5. In the Device Type list, select Physical Sensor, and then fill in these fields:
    • License Type — Select a license type.
    • Device Name — Enter a unique name for the sensor.
  6. Click Next: Technical Requirements.
  7. In the Technical Requirements section:
    1. Select a Deployment Type option:
      • Port Mirroring — A copy of network packets seen on one switch port is sent to another switch port where the Arctic Wolf sensor collects and analyzes these packets.
      • Internal Tap — The Arctic Wolf sensor physically goes inline between the firewall and the core switch, analyzing all network traffic traversing the link.
Note: The Deployment Type options that appear in the list depend on the License Type option that you selected. If a license type supports only one deployment type, that option is selected by default.
    2. If applicable, in the Transceiver Type section, select the desired transceiver type.
  8. Click Next: Model Selection.
  9. In the Model Selection section, select the desired hardware model.

The hardware models that appear in the list depend on the License Type option that you selected. If a license type has only one hardware model, that model is selected by default.

For more information about available hardware models, see Arctic Wolf Sensors.

  10. Click Next: Network Configuration.
  11. Enter these IP address and network configuration details in the Network Configuration section:
Tip: You can change these settings later using a serial console session.
    • Static IP Address — Enter a static IP address. If you cannot provide a static IP address, select Static IP Address Unavailable.
Note: If you select Static IP Address Unavailable, make sure that there is a DHCP reservation for this sensor.
    • Subnet mask — If you entered a static IP address, enter the subnet mask.
    • Gateway — If you entered a static IP address, enter the IP address of the default gateway.
    • Primary DNS Server — If you entered a static IP address, enter the address of the primary DNS server.
    • Secondary DNS Server — This field is optional. If you entered a static IP address, if desired, enter the IP address of the secondary DNS server.
  12. Click Next: Site Details.
  13. In the Site Details section:
    1. In the Site list, select the name of the site where the sensor will be deployed.

If a site is missing from the list, click Add New Site and enter the required site information. For more information, see Add a site.

Note: Only add a new site if Arctic Wolf will routinely monitor or collect data from this location for security purposes. If this location is used for shipping and receiving only, proceed to the next step.
    2. In the Shipping Address section:
      • To ship the sensor directly to the deployment site — Select Same as Site Address.
      • To ship the sensor to another location — Enter a shipping address.
Note: This address is used for shipping purposes only. Completing this step does not add a new site to your organization profile. Your organization is responsible for transporting the sensor to the site where it will be deployed.
    3. In the Shipping Contact section, in Shipping Contact list, select a contact. If the desired contact is not listed, select Add New.

This contact is responsible for receiving the shipment.

Note: If you select Add New, entering new contact information does not add a new user account to your organization profile or grant access to the Unified Portal. This contact information is used for shipping purposes only.
    4. Optional: In the Shipping Notes section, in the Additional Shipping Information box, if applicable, write any special delivery instructions.
  14. Click Next: Review and Confirm.
  15. Review the completed form for accuracy.
  16. Click Add Sensor.
A sensor profile is added. This sensor profile has the New status to indicate that your request for a physical sensor is awaiting review.
Tip: While the sensor status is New, you can edit the sensor profile to change network configuration and other settings before the sensor is shipped to you. You can edit the sensor profile until the status changes to Preparing to Ship.
