Update AD Sensor

To update your AD Sensor, download the latest version and perform an in-place upgrade.

Note: If you have customized your NXLog configuration file, you need to re-apply those changes to the new nxlog.conf file.

Download the AD Sensor installation files

  1. Sign in to the Arctic Wolf Unified Portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Resources > Downloads.
  3. In the Active Directory (AD) Sensor section, in the Receiving Sensor field, enter the IP address of the Arctic Wolf Sensor or Virtual Log Collector (vLC), or select the sensor or vLC from the list.
  4. Click Download Sensor.
    Tip:

You can use the SHA-256 hash value to verify that the downloaded file is authentic.

Update the AD Sensor

  1. Optional: If you have made any customizations to the nxlog.conf file, backup nxlog.conf before starting the AD Sensor update, as the existing nxlog.conf is overwritten.
The nxlog.conf file location is one of:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\nxlog\conf
    • C:\Program Files\nxlog\conf
  2. Identify your AD Sensor version as Arctic Wolf® only supports the latest version of AD Sensor:
    1. Right-click the awn-ad-sensor.msi file, and then select Properties.
    2. In the Description section, view the Subject field to identify the AD Sensor version.
  3. Verify the installed version of NXLog.

For more information, see Install NXLog.

  4. Right-click the downloaded AD Sensor file, and then select Extract All.
The ZIP file extracts the awn-ad-sensor folder, which contains a awn-ad-sensor.msi, nxlog.conf, and nxlog3.conf file. Do not move or delete these files.
  5. Run awn-ad-sensor.msi as an administrator.
  6. Apply any nxlog.conf customizations to the newly created nxlog.conf.
  7. Optional: Reboot the system or server that the AD Sensor is being updated on to ensure that any new customizations are applied.
