Managed Risk Physical Scanner Installation

This installation guide outlines how to install the physical Risk Scanner.
Install the Arctic Wolf 200 Series Scanner Direct link to this section
Note: The 200 Series Scanner applies to all scanner model types selected at onboarding.
To power on the 200 Series Scanner:

Remove the scanner and cables from the box.

Install the scanner in your desired location.

Plug in the power cable.

Plug the Ethernet cable into the Management Port.

Use the power switch to turn on the scanner.
Set up an Arctic Wolf customer configured appliance Direct link to this section
Note: If you encounter issues during standard setup of the appliance, you can use the serial console as an alternate setup method. See Serial Console User Guide for steps to set up your appliance using a the serial console.
Step 1: Configure an Arctic Wolf appliance Direct link to this section
Note: These steps are for appliances that your organization configures and activates after receipt. This option is selected during onboarding. If your organization opted for a pre-configured appliance:
- Scanner — Proceed to Managing Risk Scanner configuration procedure in the Risk Dashboard User Guide.
- Sensor — Proceed to Staging Installation procedure in the Deployment Guide for your sensor model.
- Use the cable provided in the box to connect the management port on the appliance to a computer, and power on the appliance.
Note: If you are using DHCP, ensure that you have access to the serial console screen or DHCP pool during configuration.
- Configure the IP address of the computer interface within the 192.168.190/24 subnet, for example 192.168.190.100.
Notes:
- Configuring the IP of the computer ensures the web browser can connect with the appliance for configuration.
- The first screen of the serial console displays both the serial number and the currently configured IP addresses of the management interface. It displays similarly to
<serial-number> [ <ip-address> ]
. - If the DHCP server allows it, the appliance registers as host
rtk-<serial_number>.rtkbox.arcticwolf.net
. You may be able to use that hostname in place of the IP address. - The IP address should not be configured to 192.168.190.22 as this is the hardcoded IP for the appliance.
- Open the provisioning email and click the configuration link. This opens a browser tab with a summary of platform and network configuration details and the message, "Applying Configuration to Appliance". When the configuration is applied, a confirmation with the message, "Configuration has been applied" is displayed.
- Power off and unplug the appliance from the computer and use the cable provided in the box to connect the appliance to your network.
Note: Your network must have internet access when connecting the appliance to your network.
Step 2: Activate an Arctic Wolf appliance Direct link to this section
Note: These steps are for appliances that your organization configures and activates after receipt. This option is selected during onboarding. If your organization opted for a pre-configured appliance:
- Scanner — Proceed to Managing Risk Scanner configuration procedure in the Risk Dashboard User Guide.
- Sensor — Proceed to Staging Installation procedure in the Deployment Guide for your sensor model.
Caution: Do not power off or unplug your appliance from your network until all steps in this procedure have been completed.

Open the provisioning email and click the activation link. This opens a browser tab with the Appliance Installation page.

On the Appliance Installation page, select Click here to install this appliance.
Note: You must complete the steps of the activation in order. Until the previous step is completed, the next step will be greyed out.

Enter the Activation code and then click Confirm. When the activation code is accepted, a confirmation with the message, "Congratulations, you're all set! Your device is now connected." is displayed.
Note: The activation code is found on the Appliance Installation page.

Return to the Appliance Installation page, and select Click here to activate this appliance.

A new browser tab opens to the Arctic Wolf Portal. If you are not already, sign in to the Arctic Wolf Portal.

Select your account name and then select Arctic Wolf Appliance Management from the list.

From the list of appliances, locate the name of the appliance to be activated, and select the power button under Actions to activate, and then click Activate Physical Appliance. When the appliance is activated in the Arctic Wolf Portal, a confirmation with the message, "Success! Physical appliance
<appliance_shorthand>
successfully activated", where<appliance_shorthand>
is the name given to that , is displayed. -
The status of the appliance will change from Not activated to Activated.
The configuration and activation of the appliance is complete when the last step of the Appliance Installation page is not greyed out and reads "Your Appliance is Activated! Your appliance has been successfully activated."
Caution: The activation process can take several minutes to complete. Do not refresh the Appliance Installation page in your browser.
