SNMP scans

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) scans monitor devices on a network. Arctic Wolf Sensors can perform periodic SNMP scans of your network to determine the types of devices that are on the network.

SNMP scans query for more information about specific hosts that have been observed on the network.
Note:

Nmap scans also scan for network information. For more information about Nmap scans, see Nmap scans for sensors.

Sensors use these scans to:
  • Better identify device types. For example, router, switch, or desktop.
  • Uniquely match IP addresses to a device identity through unique fields like a MAC address, hostname, or a unique SNMP identifier.

SNMP scanning is not enabled by default on sensors. To enable SNMP scans, contact your Concierge Security® Team (CST).

Note: Arctic Wolf Sensors do not support SNMPv3.
